Autumn in Quebec

One of the absolute best times to visit Québec is in the Fall, when everything is bathed in brilliant sunshine, and all the glory that is autumn. The colours are spectacular, but hey, don’t take my word for it, come and see for yourself.

There’s something magical about wandering around the refurbished port—and spotting the odd cruise ship in for the season’s magnificent colour show—and then ambling into the heritage section of Vieux Québec (Old Québec) and along the Petit Champlain with its cobbled street, colourful shop fronts, and enticing wares. You cannot fail to feel like you’ve been transported to another realm. Especially whenever you look up, you see the skyline is dominated by the magnificent Chateau Frontenac, reputed to be one of the most photographed buildings on the planet … and you can see why!

Come for the ambiance and colour, stay for the charm that is Québec.

A walk in the park

This is one of my favourite parks not least because it’s close, only a few minutes walk from where I live. But also because every time I go, I see something in a slightly different way. Whether because of the time of day (and the light) or the season, which impacts everything here, in the Frozen North. Or because the gardeners have been out in full force, and have changed the plants in the flower beds.

Then, of course, there are the number of walks within this small park itself, that can make for either a short, flower-filled walk, or a bit of a ramble through lots of wooded areas. It’s all a joy to take in, whatever the season.

Let’s Get Caffeinated …

The one thing that I have enjoyed about living here, in Québec City, is the coffee. Which, of course, implies there are any number of places to get an excellent cuppa Joe from. Small, hole-in-the-wall cafes known for roasting their own beans, on-site, with blends from all over the world.

If visiting, you should try places like …

575 rue St. Jean

235 rue St. Joseph Est.

143 rue Saint-Paul

807 ave. Cartier

Lunch at les cafes du Soleil

All these cafes not only roast and grind their own blends, but provide a great ambience in which to sit and enjoy not only your brew, but also fresh made cakes and sandwiches. And let me tell you, I wouldn’t have included anyone I haven’t tried, and loved, in this list. All these recommendations are AAA!
